The Healing of the Heart

Where do we start this journey?  It had to have a starting point, I believe that I had already tried jumping in wherever I had the chance, and that didn't work so well.  There was always a lot of information missing that I should have known by this point ... but I didn't.

I needed to get to the most simple and critical place of learning.  I have to be honest here to say, that this come not because of my thought but a piece of Scripture that came in an unexpected moment.

Matthew 22:39 answered a familiar question concerning the Great Commandment.  Jesus answered that we should love the Lord our God with our whole heart, our whole soul, and our whole mind.  This was profound and frankly more than a passionate response.  What is the heart?  What is the soul?  And, what is the mind?  These were viewed as metaphors without sure definition.

The Heart is where you believe all that you hold as truth for you.

Your Soul is literally the person (personality) that you are.

The Mind is how we manage our Relationship with all things.

These are not my private conclusions, but the clear statements gleaned from the Bible and a lot of comparative study.

My first book was "The Healing of the Heart," and it holds some amazing realizations about why we are what we are and how easily we are fooled in a world of diluted truths.  Whenever we start to repair our lives, it has to start here.  The was the second, and most profound piece of information that I found:

Start at the HeartProverbs 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

Let's forget for a moment that this is the Bible, though it is God's Word.  Here is one of those linchpin verses that should have a huge sign as it were a big pointing hand saying, "Start Here!"

So, I started my journey be first learning how the Heart really works.  The first things that I learned was that there are at least to functions of the Heart.  We are told that the Heart has a Treasury, and it has a Belief System.  What a revelation that was, and it made so much sense.

The Belief System Contains all that we Believe (The Tablets)

Did you know that we are told that there are Tablets of the Heart that are written with all that we believe?  (Prov 3:3; II Cor 3:3) and it is out of these things that we believe (Rom 10:10).

You need to know that these tablets are not solely reserved for truth.  Like "The Wall" on your Facebook page, you can post up anything you like ... whether right or wrong.

The Value System Prioritizes and Arranges our Beliefs (The Treasury)

Luke 6:45  "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."  (cp Luke 12:34)

Romans 2:5 "But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;"

This is interesting, the process works for the believer and one who does not believe.  It is a universal concept that applies to all.  In Matthew 6:21; 12:35 confirms this value system as well.

And thus begins your journey as we start in childhood to determine what will be written on the Tablets of our Heart and what Value we will place on each of those beliefs.

There is so much more to share, so let me invite you to read the first chapter of the book.  It will give you an amazing insight as to who you are.
